Introduction to Classical Chinese
A free two-month course, distilling my 35+ years of experience
This rich course presents material that I have been teaching for years in doctorate programs, weekend retreats, and conference settings, to introduce advanced clinical practitioners and/or students to the art of reading the classical Chinese medical literature. Worth $500, I so strongly believe in my mission that I am offering it here for free. You shall receive twelve lessons spread out over two months to get you started on your journey with reading the Chinese medicine classics. I will discuss the following topics, always with an eye to the clinical application and with some fun examples from the texts themselves to inspire you in your healing practice:
Why would modern practitioners study the Chinese medicine classics?
What do we mean by “classical Chinese?”
What are Chinese characters and how do they work?
What makes classical Chinese grammar unique and how might that shape perception and communication?
What are the best contemporary translation tools and their limits?
What are the key classics of Chinese Medicine and why?
Each week, my gift to you includes:
A recorded video
In an hour-long video lecture, I introduce you to the week’s topic. You have a chance to post questions or comments in a members-only discussion area that is actively monitored and answered by me.
Expert insights and tips
To complement and frame the recording, I offer you a written post that invites further reflection on the questions raised in the video. I also share my own and my students’ challenges and offer different perspectives.
Helpful resources
Each week, I additionally share helpful links, my own blog posts, and external resources, to inspire you to go deeper if something has tickled your fancy.
